Hello Entrepreneurs!
For those who are new to the club, my name is Sean Malloy. I’m currently a junior studying abroad in Paris. I’ve been with the club since its first meeting and was a part of the original leadership team. It has been great to see the club grow and I’m happy to see the clubs success, even while abroad.
While I may be in another hemisphere, I still remember the problems a lot of treps would have. Of course, the main one being “How do I find a good idea?” I know this will sound clichéd but you should try turning your phone off. When I arrived in Paris, I arrived without a data plan. I mean, sure, I had a few texts and calling minutes but the second I left Wi-Fi my phone was practically silent. At first, this seemed a bit annoying. I couldn’t just google the bar I wanted to go too, or look up the answer to some random question I had. But after a week, I began to realize the uses this had since I started to pay more attention to the world around me.
I’ve had friends joke about the fun of going ‘people watching’, where you grab a window seat at a place like Starbucks and just watch people go by. But, for an Entrepreneur, this has its uses. It allows you to see the common problems people have on a daily basis. These problems could lead to ideas, and those ideas into businesses. Yet, none of these problems can be identified if you’re constantly looking at your phone. By being separated from the constant distraction, your awareness can increase. So the next time you’re looking for an idea, just try watching the world around you. I know once I did, it became much easier to find truly inspiring ideas.
Regards,
Sean
